The post 9/11 period has seen an unprecedented demand for bomb detecting dogs. More and more law enforcement agencies receive requests for bomb dogs to search schools, government facilities, public transportation vehicles, stadiums and arenas, and anywhere large groups of people assemble. In the past the threat primarily came from domestic terrorists but now and in the foreseeable future the threat is posed primarily by foreign terrorists. It appears this threat will remain a significant problem for law enforcement, especially at the first responder level. If your agency had been considering establishing an explosives detection K9 team there is often Federal funding available to help facilitate local law enforcement in developing this specialty team.
Our bomb detection course teaches the canine to detect various elements of explosives including RDX, PETN, TNT, Black Powder, Smokeless Powder, Watergel, as well as other explosive components. Additionally the canine is trained in on and off leash obedience including directive searches. The K9 team is trained to detect explosives in buildings, open areas, packages, and vehicles. K9 handlers are taught effective search techniques and search patterns to enable them to best utilize the dog's detection skills. The value of a highly trained explosives detection K9 team both as a law enforcement tool and as a deterrent cannot be duplicated !
