Minimum standards are established by all states with regards to law enforcement officer training. Each state requires mandatory training in basic law enforcement and officers may not be certified until such training is completed. However, many states do not require certification of law enforcement K9 teams and have no minimum standards by which law enforcement K9 teams must perform.
Consequently some law enforcement agencies do not require certification of their K9 teams at all or allow their K9 teams to certify to minimal performance standards. It is our position that this is the primary reason many under-performing K9 teams are deployed on the street today. These minimal certifying standards produce dogs that are not sufficiently under handler control in the work environment and are lacking in task proficiency. Because of the high risk of injury and litigation, it is essential that today's K9 team be trained to a highest standard in order to minimizes this potential.
Every police K9 team training with us must pass our rigid certification requirements before being allowed to graduate our program. Our certification requirements are more demanding than those issued by any independent K9 certifying organization in the US known to us today. We guarantee any police K9 team trained at Ventosa Kennel will be capable of passing certification requirements with any certifying organization in the US today. Setting our certification standards higher requires us to deliver to our clients the best working dogs available!
If your department is beginning a K9 program or presently has a K9 program, be sure your certification standards will ensure you have police K9 teams that are trained to the highest level attainable. Contact us and we will be happy to help you decide if your present certification standards are adequate to provide you with a safe, reliable, effective, and productive police K9 program.
